Eclipse Metals Limited (ASX:EPM) reported in its FY2026 Annual Report an updated Gronnedal Mineral Resource in South Greenland of 208 million tonnes at 7,239ppm total rare-earth oxides, containing 1,505kt TREO including roughly 456,000 tonnes of neodymium and praseodymium oxides, with 6Mt classified Indicated for the first time.

Eclipse Metals Limited (ASX: EPM), the Perth-based explorer that also trades as EPMFF in the United States and 9EU in Frankfurt, has filed its Annual Report for the financial year ended 30 June 2026. The document does what annual reports for pre-development explorers rarely do with much conviction: it points to a materially larger rare-earth resource, a first slice of that resource in a higher confidence category, and a second deposit added after the books closed.

The centrepiece is Gronnedal, in South Greenland. In April 2026 Eclipse published an updated Mineral Resource Estimate of 208 million tonnes grading 7,239 parts per million total rare-earth oxides, reported at a 2,000ppm TREO cut-off grade. That translates to 1,505 kilotonnes of contained TREO. Within it sits approximately 456,000 tonnes of neodymium and praseodymium oxides — the two elements that actually pay the bills in a rare-earth project, because they go into the permanent magnets used in electric-vehicle traction motors, wind turbine generators and a long list of defence hardware.

What the maiden Indicated category actually changes

Of the 208Mt, 6Mt is now classified Indicated at 7,139ppm TREO, with the remaining 202Mt Inferred at 7,242ppm. On an illustrative basis that puts roughly 3% of the tonnage in the Indicated bucket — a small share, but a meaningful one, because it is the first time any part of Gronnedal has cleared that bar.

The distinction matters more than the arithmetic suggests. Inferred resources are an estimate of geology; they cannot be used in the economic studies that underpin a mine financing decision. Indicated material can. Under the reporting codes that govern ASX-listed explorers, a pre-feasibility or feasibility study has to be built on Indicated or Measured material. Until this year Eclipse had no such foundation at Gronnedal at all. It now has a starting block, however narrow, from which a scoping or pre-feasibility exercise can be built out as drilling converts more of the Inferred tonnage.

Note too that the Indicated grade sits marginally below the Inferred grade. That is normal — tighter drill spacing tends to smooth out the optimistic tails in a sparse dataset — and the gap here is slight rather than alarming. It is a data point worth watching as future conversions come through, because a persistent downward drift on infill drilling is one of the classic ways a headline resource number shrinks in practice.

Drilling, metallurgy and the part nobody puts in a headline

During FY2026 Eclipse completed what it describes as the first modern diamond drilling program across both the Gronnedal deposit and the historic Ivigtut mining district. Ivigtut is one of the better-known names in Greenlandic mining history — a cryolite operation that ran for the better part of a century — and Eclipse reported a resource estimate for it after the 30 June balance date, meaning it falls into FY2027 reporting but frames the portfolio investors are being asked to value today.

Alongside the drilling, the company advanced mineralogical and metallurgical testwork. For rare earths this is the step that separates projects that get built from projects that do not. A high contained-tonnage number is close to meaningless if the rare earths are locked in refractory mineral phases that resist conventional leaching, or if the concentrate carries radionuclide levels that complicate shipping and downstream processing. Grade tells you what is there; metallurgy tells you what can be recovered at a cost someone will finance. The details of that work sit in the Annual Report, summarised by INN Rare Earth.

Eclipse also says it continued environmental, social and regulatory programs in Greenland through the year. That line is easy to skim past and hard to overstate. Greenland's permitting framework runs through its own Mineral Resources Authority, with a consultation process that gives local communities real standing. Baseline environmental and social impact work typically takes multiple field seasons in an Arctic setting with a short operating window. Starting it early is not a compliance box — it is schedule risk being retired ahead of time.

Where this sits among Western rare-earth hopefuls

The strategic case for a project like Gronnedal writes itself, which is also its weakness: every Western rare-earth developer makes the same case. Magnet-grade separation capacity outside China remains thin, governments in the United States, the European Union and Australia have all designated rare earths as critical, and buyers want supply that does not depend on a single jurisdiction's export policy. Greenland adds its own layer — a territory that has drawn sustained geopolitical attention and where mining policy has been politically contested.

The strategic case for a project like Gronnedal writes itself, which is also its weakness: every Western rare-earth developer makes the same case.

The NdPr fraction is the number that separates the serious projects from the rest. On the figures Eclipse reported, the roughly 456,000 tonnes of neodymium-praseodymium oxides represent about 30% of the contained TREO — an illustrative ratio derived from the company's own disclosed tonnages. A high NdPr share within a total rare-earth basket is what determines whether a deposit's revenue is concentrated in the magnet metals or diluted across cerium and lanthanum, which are abundant and command far less.

Set against that, the obvious caveats apply. Eclipse is an exploration-stage company that has not published mine economics for Gronnedal. There is no reported capital cost, no production schedule, no offtake. The overwhelming majority of the resource remains Inferred. And Arctic project development is expensive in a way that flatters no spreadsheet: short field seasons, marine logistics, power supply, and a labour force that has to be flown in.

The funding and permitting steps that come next

For shareholders, the sequence from here is reasonably predictable even if the timing is not. Converting Inferred tonnes to Indicated requires more drilling, which requires cash — and junior explorers without revenue raise that cash through equity, which dilutes existing holders, or through strategic partners, which does not dilute as sharply but usually costs project-level ownership. Government critical-minerals funding programs in Europe and North America have become a third route for projects that can argue a supply-chain case.

Three markers are worth tracking. First, whether Eclipse publishes a scoping-level economic study built on the new Indicated material, and what recovery assumptions the metallurgical testwork supports. Second, how the post-balance-date Ivigtut resource is defined and whether it can share infrastructure with Gronnedal — two deposits in one district is a materially better proposition than two standalone projects. Third, the permitting cadence in Greenland, where the pace of consultation and licensing will set the outer bound on any development timeline regardless of how good the geology looks.

The broader tape offered no particular tailwind into the report: the S&P 500 tracker closed at $764.20, down 0.18% on the session, with the Dow proxy off 0.22% and the Nasdaq 100 tracker up 0.19%, as of the last trade on 29 September 2026. Rare-earth developers tend to trade on policy headlines and resource announcements rather than index direction, and Eclipse has now delivered one of the latter.

Frequently asked questions

What did Eclipse Metals report for FY2026?

Eclipse Metals Limited released its Annual Report for the year ended 30 June 2026, covering its wholly owned South Greenland critical-minerals project. Highlights included the first modern diamond drilling program across the Gronnedal rare-earth deposit and the historic Ivigtut mining district, an updated Gronnedal Mineral Resource, advanced mineralogical and metallurgical testwork, and continuing environmental, social and regulatory programs in Greenland.

How big is the Gronnedal resource?

The updated Mineral Resource Estimate announced in April 2026 stands at 208 million tonnes grading 7,239 parts per million total rare-earth oxides, reported at a 2,000ppm TREO cut-off. It contains 1,505 kilotonnes of TREO, of which approximately 456,000 tonnes are neodymium and praseodymium oxides — the magnet-metal fraction that drives rare-earth project revenue.

Why does the Indicated category matter?

Under the resource reporting codes applied to ASX-listed explorers, only Indicated and Measured material can be used in the economic studies that support a mine financing decision. Inferred resources are a geological estimate and cannot. Gronnedal's 6Mt Indicated component at 7,139ppm TREO is the first such material Eclipse has reported there, giving it a base from which to build economic studies.

What is Ivigtut?

Ivigtut is a historic mining district in South Greenland, long known for cryolite production. Eclipse drilled it during FY2026 as part of its first modern diamond drilling program and reported a resource estimate for it after the 30 June 2026 balance date. Two deposits within one district raise the possibility of shared infrastructure, which typically improves project economics.

Is Eclipse Metals producing rare earths now?

No. Eclipse is an exploration-stage company. It has reported mineral resources for Gronnedal and, post-balance-date, for Ivigtut, but has not published mine economics, a capital cost estimate, a production schedule or offtake agreements for the South Greenland project. The overwhelming majority of the Gronnedal resource remains in the Inferred category.

What should investors watch next?

Three markers stand out: whether Eclipse publishes a scoping or pre-feasibility study built on the new Indicated material and what metallurgical recoveries it assumes; how the Ivigtut resource is defined and whether the two deposits can share infrastructure; and the pace of Greenland's permitting and community consultation process, which sets the outer bound on any development timeline.
