January 20 (Renewables Now) – Controlled Thermal Resources US Inc (CTR), through its unit Hell’s Kitchen PowerCo 1 LLC, has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with California’s Imperial Irrigation District (IID) for the output of a geothermal facility it will build at the Salton Sea.

The geothermal facility, named Hell’s Kitchen, will supply 40 MW to the Imperial Valley irrigation and electricity provider.

CTR, an Australian power and lithium producer, said it expects the new facility to be ready in 2023. According to its website, the Hell’s Kitchen project, which will also integrate direct lithium extraction, will produce 49.9 MW of geothermal power with expansion to 140 MW in the first stage.

The Hell’s Kitchen facility will be located at the Salton Sea Known Geothermal Resource Area (SSKGRA) in Southern California, which, according to CTR, has an estimated power capacity of 2,950 MW per year.
